I just finished a 3-day Haig glacier camp with the National Team. The plan was to fly in and out of the camp since there was still a lot of snow on the trail. We flew in Wednesday morning, landed directly on the glacier and did a 3 1/2 hour ski under blue skies and hot sun. Thursday was a shorter day with a 2 hr ski and an equally beautiful day. Unfortunately the amazing weather didn't last and a storm rolled in Thursday night bringing strong wind gusts, thunder, rain and hail that woke me up multiple times during the night. Training Friday morning was difficult as we were hit with wind gusts that tried to blow us over as we hiked to the glacier. The original plan was to do a long ski then fly out from camp in the afternoon but we were pretty sure the helicopter wouldn't be able to get in so we cut the ski short and went back to camp. Sure enough, we got the call cancelling the flights and sighed as we prepared to trek out under our own steam. We hiked through snow for the first hour then switched to running as the snow pack decreased. After over 3 hours we finally made it out and headed home for a shower and proper meal.
Today was an easy day then we finish off the National Team camp tomorrow with an intensity session. I am very excited to start a rest week on Monday and am planning to head to Salmon Arm to visit my family and get some beach time!
